With this new and even more powerful version, you can capture and create more perfectly than ever. ColorChecker Passport Photo 2 is ideal for any photographer looking for accurate and consistent colour and creative flexibility.

For some time now I've been meaning to move away from Lightroom and make Capture one my main RAW processor. Up until recently, there was only one thing that prevented me from making that switch completely and that was the lack of support for the ColorChecker Passport. Colors are extremely important to me and the passport from X-Rite proves very useful to me in many circumstances. Fortunately, Lumariver is a piece of software that allows you to create ICC profiles in Capture one using the CCP.

1. Use the “Add Colour Readout” feature of Capture One to make your life easier. Apply LCC, depending on the used camera and lens this might help to remove the colour cast and get a more evenly lit image; Set the white balance, use one of the grey patches at the bottom of the ColorChecker Passport Photo.
2. Photograph a ColorChecker Passport or any ColorChecker Classic in raw file format Process the file in Capture One using the recommended settings and output a TIFF Run the TIFF through the Camera Calibration software v1.2 to create your custom ICC profile. Quit and reopen Capture One.
3. Has anyone else trouble getting those profiles created with a ColorChecker Passport (Photo2) to work correctly with Capture One? I'm not able to get true blacks with these Profiles - the rest of the color seems to be in order, but the images look slightly less contrasty and no matter what I do, I can't get a true black (0 0 0 0) value with them.

The great thing about ICC profiles is that they're more flexible than the profiles you create in Lightroom and are more widely accepted. The profiles in Capture One are also significantly more accurate due to being able to change the curves and remove pre-existing profiles. As you can see from the images below Not only is the image produced in Capture One more accurate but it's also more pleasing to look at.

You will be able to see from the above comparison how the Capture One image has a truer blue in the sky, something you will see at blue hour in the evening. The colours are also more vibrant and the skin tones don't have the sickly green that can be seen in the Lightroom image.

I use the X-Rite Color Checker Passport for all of my work: Sometimes I forget to pull it out of my bag, though.

The X-Rite is really made to be used with Adobe Lightroom, Camera Raw, and Photoshop for instant DNG profiling of your file for drag-and-drop color correction.

For me, though, I use Capture One, which uses ICC profiles for file color, so I’m excluded from using the DNG profiling. But, I discovered that if you are using Capture One, all you need to do is photograph the Munsell Color Target and use the Auto Color Correction button to have the software completely correct the file.

This, for me, is great news as I love Capture One and now can utilize the X-Rite as you Adobe users do.

Here’s what I mean. First I take a custom white balance off the neutral target:

Then I photograph the target and bring that into Capture One as well:

If you compare the two closely, you’ll see how contrast and color have been improved in the adjusted photo. After that, I just copy and paste my adjustments to my photos and I’m done: Color Correction made easy!

In the above photo, the blacks, whites, and colors are fuller and have more contrast than the original.

That’s the way I do it in Capture One. The effect is the same in Adobe products, you just need to make a DNG file and calibrate it for the software and away you go.
